Martinez covers real variety in a small footprint. Downtown and Arreba are the most walkable pockets, with Craftsman bungalows dating to the early 1900s and easy access to the Amtrak station. The Marina and waterfront district sit along the Carquinez Strait near the city’s public marina and fishing pier. Alhambra Valley and Alhambra Hills, toward the John Muir National Historic Site, offer larger lots and a more rural, custom-home character, while Vine Hill, Mountain View, Virginia Hills, and Morello Park are more typical established suburban neighborhoods, several within walking distance of their own elementary schools.

Martinez itself doesn’t have a BART station — the nearest, North Concord/Martinez, is actually located in Concord. Martinez does have its own Amtrak station downtown, served by the Capitol Corridor line, and sits at the junction of Interstate 680 and State Route 4. Schools also split by geography: most of the city is served by Martinez Unified School District, but a meaningful portion of southern Martinez, generally south of Highway 4, falls under Mount Diablo Unified instead — buyers should confirm assignment for a specific address directly with the district rather than assume based on neighborhood.

Outside the neighborhoods, the John Muir National Historic Site and the Radke Martinez Regional Shoreline give the city more waterfront and open-space access than its size would suggest, and downtown’s Main Street corridor has become a genuine destination for shops, restaurants, and a weekly farmers market.
